Answer by Alan3354(69443) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
if jay walked a mile at 2mph and then rode his bike for another mile at 10mph what would be his average speed.
-----------
Total distance = 2 miles
Total time = 1/2 + 1/10 = 3/5 hours
-------
To find mi/hr, divide the miles by the hours.
===========================================================
For round-trips or equal distances:
Avg speed = 2*R1*R2/(R1 + R2) = 2*2*10/(2+10) = 40/12 = 10/3 mi/hr
