All this problem is asking you to do is to find the value of:
.
p*q*a + p - q
.
when p equals 6, q = 1/2, and a = 5
.
Start with:
.
p*q*a + p - q
.
and replace p with 6. When you do that you get:
.
6*q*a + 6 - q
.
Next replace q with 1/2 and the polynomial then becomes:
.
6*(1/2)*a + 6 - (1/2)
.
Finally, replace a by 5 and the polynomial is then:
.
6*(1/2)*5 + 6 - (1/2)
.
In the first term, multiply 6 times (1/2) to get 3 and multiply that by 5 to get 15. So
you can replace 6*(1/2)*5 by 15 and the polynomial reduces to:
.
15 + 6 - 1/2
.
Add the 15 and the 6 to get 21. This further reduces it to:
.
21 - 1/2
.
Subtract 1/2 from 21 and the answer becomes 20 1/2 or 20.5
.
Hope this helps you to understand the problem and how to solve it.
