Basically, because volume is in 3 dimensions, the length, width, and height all get doubled; the result is that the original volume gets multiplied by 2 3 times.
New volume = old volume * (2*2*2) = 8 * old volume
The old volume was 1 quart; the new volume is 8 quarts.
