The challenging team was down by 12 points at the end of a basketball game, they scored 4 points for every 6 points the defending team scored.
What was the final score the defending team at the end of the game?
:
let x = the number of scoring periods in the game
defending team = 6x points
challenging team = 4x points
6x - 4x = 12
2x = 12
x = 6
then
6*6 = 36 points scored by the defending team
and
6(4) = 24 points scored by the challenging team
A difference of 12 points
