Question 1131160: Determine number of bricks needed;
A wall is 17 ft. in height and 11 ft. in length.
1/2 in. mortar is used.
Brick dimensions are 2 3/4 in. high, 4 1/4 in. wide, and 8 1/2 in. long. (Nominal dimensions are 2 1/4, 3 3/4, and 8.)

17 * 11 = 187 sq. ft. (wall area)
2.75 * 4.25 * 8.5 = 99.34375 = .6898871 sq. ft. (brick area)
Not sure how to continue.

A wall is in height and in length.
mortar is used: .
Brick dimensions are
high, =>
wide, =>
long=>
(Nominal dimensions are , , and .) => mortar is already added and we got dimensions above

(wall area)
brick area: we need only length and height
(brick area)

divide the wall area by brick area
=> the number of bricks needed

The solution by the tutor @MathLover1 is incorrect,

since she uses dimensions of the wall in feet, while dimensions of bricks in inches.

All dimensions must be in uniform (consistent) units !
