If 54 were a prime number, then the only possibility would be 54 baskets with one orange each.
The prime factorization of 54 is 2,3,3,3
Therefore, the possible combinations are:
54 baskets with 1 each
2 baskets with 27 each
27 baskets with 2 each
3 baskets with 18 each
18 baskets with 3 each
6 baskets with 9 each
9 baskets with 6 each

If the number of baskets doesn't divide evenly
into the number of oranges, there will be one or
more oranges left over.
If were prime ( no divisors ), then there could only be
one basket with oranges in it, and the
baskets are supposed to be smaller than the crate.

3 baskets with 18 oranges each
6 baskets with 9 oranges each
9 baskets with 6 oranges each
18 baskets with 3 oranges each
27 baskets with 2 oranges each
