Let a stand for the width and b stand for the length.
The length is 5 more than two times the width, so:
b=2a+5
and the perimeter is all four sides added together so:
40=2a+2b
use substitution
40=2a+2(2a+5)
40=2a+4a+10
30=6a
5=a this means that the width is 5 feet, plug this back in to the equation
2(5)+5=15 so the length is 15 feet
Answer: The length of a rectangular fence is 15 feet
