let i - no. that Iris has

If harris gives iris 83 stamps, he will have the same number of stamps as iris.
i + 83 = h - 83
i = h - 83 - 83
i = h - 166
If iris gives harris 52 stamps, the ratio of the number of stamps iris has to harris will be 4:7.

replace i with (h-166)

cross multiply
7(h-218) = 4(h+52)
7h - 1526 = 4h + 208
7h - 4h = 208 + 1526
3h = 1734
h = 1734/3
h = 578 stamps has Harris
