The Richter scale is a logarithm based scale of measurement of earthquake activity with increasing magnitude equal to increasing destruction potential.
Higher numbers are stronger earthquakes.
1 number higher means 10 times stronger.
2 numbers higher means 100 times stronger.
So the 7 is the stronger of the quakes and is 100 times stronger than the 5.
