let x equal what the store owner makes.

let y equal what the manager makes.

the store owner makes 1/4 more than the manager makes.

that means the owner makes x + 1/4 * x = 5/4 * x.

since the owner makes y, then you get y = 5/4 * x.

solve for x to get x = 4/5 * y.

the owner makes 5/4 * x which is 5/4 * the salary that the manager makes.

the manager makes 4/5 * y which is 4/5 * the salary that the owner makes.

the owner makes 5/4 * x which is equal to 1.25 * x which is equal to 125% * the salary that the manager makes.

the manager makes 4/5 * y which is equal to .8 * y which is equal to 80% * the salary that the owner makes.

125% * the salary that the manager makes is 25% more than the manager makes.

80% * the salary that the owner makes is 20% less than the owner makes.

assume the manager makes 1000 dollars.

since the owner makes 25% more, then the owner makes 1250 dollars.

1250 that the owner makes minus 1000 that the manager makes is equal to 250.

that's the difference between what the manager makes and the owner makes.

250 / 1250 = .2 = 20% less than what the owner makes.

250 / 1000 = .25 = 25% more than what the manager makes.
