Question 1107781: In 1994, funding for a program increased by 0.19 billion dollars from the funding in 1993. In 1995, the increase was 0.77 billion dollars over the funding in 1994. For those three years the funding was 11.59 billion dollars. How much was funded in each of these three years? I tried this:
x + 0.19 = y
y + 0.77 = z
x + y + z = 11.59
x + x + 0.19 + y + 0.77 = 11.59
Thanks for your help!
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
See if you can stay in one variable
1993=x
1994=x+0.19
1195=x+0.19+0.77
x+x+0.19+x+0.96=11.59
3x+1.15=11.59
3x=10.44
x=3.48 billion
x+0.19=3.67 billion
x+0.19+0.77=4.44 billion
they add to 11.59 billion
