a container with base 60cm by 40cm and a height of 25cm was 4/5 filled with water. Some of the water was removed causing the water level to fall by 5cm. The remaining water was then poured into a tank and a basin, filling them to the brims. Tne capacity of the basin was 1/3 of the tank. If the tank was 18cm long 15cm wide what was the height of the water in the tank.

The volume of the tank is 3 times the volume of the basin; so 3/4 of the water goes into the tank and 1/4 into the basin.
(5) Volume of water poured into the tank:
Let x be the height of the tank. The volume of the tank has to be 27000:




The height of the water in the tank is the height of the tank, because the tank is full.

The height of the water in the tank is 100 cm.
