Question 1104885: a random sample of 40 unionized adjunct professors yeiled and average hourly salary of x1=$40.75 with s=$4.30 after adjustments were made for union dues. another sample of 55 non-unionized adjunct professors yeilded x2=$38.80 with s=$3.90. test at the alpha = .05 signifigance level whether the true mean hourly salary of the two groups of adjunct professors is the same or alternatively different. assumer normalitiy of the samples.

Ho: same
Ha: unequal
test statistic is t df=93
critical value is |t|> 1.97
t=(xbar1-xbar2)/sqrt ((s1^2/n1)+s2^2/n2)); sqrt term is 0.462+0.277=0.739; sqrt (0.739)=0.860
t=1.95/0.86=2.27, which is greater than 1.97 test statistic.
Can conclude there is a difference at the 0.05 level.
