An airplane's velocity with respect to the air is 580 mph and it is headed North 58 degrees West. The wind, at the altitude of the plane, is from the southwest and has a velocity of 60 mph. What is the true direction of the plane, and what is its speed with respect to the ground?
So the way that I need to solve it on my homework is to put the velocity vector of the airplane in component form and to put the velocity vector of the wind in component form, but to do this, I need the angle that the wind is blowing, and this is not given in the problem. After both the wind and airplane's velocity vectors are in component form (I know how to do this), I can add them and solve the problem. Thanks for your help!
