Question 1100051: Hi
there were 350 marbles in a box. 40% of them were red.there were 10% more red than green marbles.
The rest were white and orange. If there were twice as many white as orange, how many more red than white marbles were there.
Thanks

Answer by greenestamps(13203)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

The problem as you show it is faulty; it can't be solved.

We are told that 40% of the 350 marbles are red, so there are 140 red marbles.

But then we are told that the number of red marbles is 10% more than the number of green marbles.
But that makes the number of green marbles a number that is not a whole number -- and that is nonsense; so the problem is unsolvable.
