5x + 4 = 39,

5x = 39-4 = 35  ====>  x = 7 cm the smallest piece.

Let the first piece be F

Then the second is: 2F

Third piece is: 2F + 4

We then get: F+ 2F + 2F + 4 = 39

5F = 35
