Question 109030: The number of milligrams of a certian subtance per liter in samples of drinking water all tested within .05 to 40 milligrams per liter. Write this information as an inequality, using absoulute value.
At first I thought that this would be set up as the absolute value of .05< =40. BUt now I am not so sure. Can you please explain to me what I should do differently?
Also do inequalities always have to be able to be solved?
Thank you so much!!!!!
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The number of milligrams of a certian subtance per liter in samples of drinking water all tested within .05 to 40 milligrams per liter. Write this information as an inequality, using absolute value.
-------------
1st: Find the mid-point between 0.05 and 40: (40+0.05)/2 = 20.025
2nd: Find the distance from the midpoint to an end point:
40-20.025 = 19.975
3rd: Set up the absolute inequality:
|x-20.025|< 19.975
