An irrigation pipe 6 in. in diameter has water flowing at the rate of 8 ft. per minute. Determine amount (gal.) delivered per hr. at the end of the pipe.
---------
If 6 in is the ID:
Cross-sectional area (CSA) = pi*r^2 = 9pi sq inches.
----
8 ft/min = 96 in/min
Flow rate = CSA*96 = 864pi cubic inches/minute = 0.5pi cubic ft/minute
= 30pi cubic ft/hr
---------------
Convert to gallons/hr
I think it's 7.48 gal/cf
-----
Flow rate = 7.48*30pi gal/hr
= ~ 704.97 gal/hr
