I have a problem that I do not know how to set up can you help me? The word problem is: The function f(x)=1+1.5ln(x+1) models the average number of free-throws a basketball player can make consecutively during practice as a function of time, where x is the number of consecutive days the basketball player has practiced for two hours. After how many days of practice can the basketball player make an average of 10 consecutive free throws?
I do not have a model to answer this question can you help me set it up so I can answer it. Thanks Melinda

The function f(x)=1+1.5ln(x+1) models the average number of free-throws a basketball player can make consecutively during practice, as a function of time, where x is the number of consecutive days the basketball player has practiced for two hours. After how many days of practice can the basketball player make an average of 10 consecutive free throws?
:
The problems gives you f(x) which is 10 consecutive free throws, so we have;
1 + 1.5*ln(x+1) = 10
:
We want to find x, which is the number practice days
:
1.5*ln(x+1) = 10 - 1: subtracted 1 from both sides
:
ln(x+1) = ; divided both sides by 1.5
ln(x+1) = 6
Find the antilog of both sides (e^x on the calc):
x + 1 = 403.43
x = 403.43 - 1
x = 402.43 days
:
:
Check solution on a calc: enter: 1.5*ln(403.43) = 9.0000 + 1 = 10
