five sisters all do volunteer work. last month they did volunteer work for a mean of 16hours four of them worked fr 16, 18, 12, and 14 hours how many hours did the fifth sister work.
please help me i have been struggling with this

The mean is the average, it is the sum divided by the number of entries
Here you have 5 entries: 16,18,12,14, and x. The unknown x is for the 5th sister. So you add them up and solve for x:
16+18+12+14+x = 60+x now divide by 5:
60+x/5 = 16
60+x = 80
x = 20
-------------------------------------------
Check:
(16+18+12+14+20)/5 = 16
80/5 = 16 Correct
