Question 1074127: Mrs. Ryan is planning to buy curtains for their new house. She will need 23 floor length pieces, each piece is 2 meters and 50 cm long. How many meters should she buy?
Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
she will need 23 * (2 meters + 50 cm) floor length pieces.

this is equivalent to 23 * 2 meters + 23 * 50 cm.

23 * 2 meters = 46 meters.

23 * 50 cm = 1150 cm.

1 meter is equal to 100 centimeters.

1150 cm / 100 = 11.5 meters

she will need a total of 46 + 11.5 = 57.5 meters of floor length curtains.

you could also have converted everything to meters to start with.

2 meters + 50 cm is equivalent to 2.5 meters.

2.5 meters * 23 = 57.5 meters.
