Question 1071579: The senior class decided to have a picnic. A total of 'S' seniors pledged to contribute equally for the $1000 fund. If 20 refused to honor their commitment, how much more would each of the rest of the seniors have to pay?
- I am not exactly sure what the answer should look like, or what the question is asking for. I would appreciate any sort of assistance :)

Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The average commitment is 1000/s
if 20 don't pay, then the rest do, so they pay 1000/(s-20)
The increase is 1000/(s-20)-(1000/s)= common denominator is (s(s-20))
numerator is 1000s-1000(s-20)=1000s-1000s+20000
The increase is
20000/s(s-20) ANSWER
Suppose there are 100 seniors. They all pay 10, 1000/10
If 80 end up paying, they pay 1000/80=$12.50, which is $2.50 more
20000/100(80)=20000/8000=$2.50.
If there were 1000 seniors, each would pay $1
with 800, they would pay $1.25
The increase would be 20000/1000(800)=$0.25.
