Question 1069006: you sold two different types of wrapping paper for your band fundraiser. One type sold for $6 a roll and the other for $8 a roll. You collected a total of $92 for the 14 rolls you sold. How many of each type were sold?
Answer by addingup(3677)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x sold for 6
y sold for 8
x+y = 14 subtract x from both sides:
y = 14-x
Next:
6x+8y = 92 substitute for y
6x+8(14-x) = 92
Distributive property of multiplication:
6x+112-8x = 92
-2x = -20
Divide both sides by -2, and remember -/- = +
x = 10
y = 14-x = 4
--------------------
Check:
(10*6)+(4*8) = 92 Correct
:
John
