The base of a parallelogram is 9 ft more than the height. If the area of the parallelogram is 36 ft squared, what are the measures of the base and the height?
--------
Area = base*height
36 = (h+9)h
-------
h^2 + 9h - 36 = 0
h^2+12h-3h-36 = 0
h(h+12)-3(h+12) = 0
(h+12)(h-3) = 0
Positive solution::
height = 3 ft
base = 3+9 = 12 ft
