hours, and the second mechanic worked for
15
hours. Together they charged a total of
$
2175
. What was the rate charged per hour by each mechanic if the sum of the two rates was
$
160
per hour?

and what mechanic B charged per hour.

Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
mechanic a makes x dollars per hour
mechanic b makes y dollars per hour.
10x+15y=2175
x+y=160; multiply this by -10 and add to the first to eliminate x
-10x-10y=-1600
5y=575
y=$115 @ 15 hours=$1725
x=$45 @ 10 hours=$450
They add to $2175.
