A ratio of 3:5 means that out of every 3+5 = 8 pages 3 are one book and 5 the other. So, divide 2400 by 8 to see how many groups of 8 we have: 2400/8 = 300 groups, and each group has 3 of one and 5 of the other: 3*300 = 900 pages for one and 5*300 = 1500 of the other.
-----------------
Check:
900+1500 = 2400 and 900/1500 simplify, divide top and bottom by 100 = 9/15, simplify, divide top and bottom by 3 = 3/5 Correct
