Question 1058194: In one year, a 4-wheeler salesman earns $20,000 plus 18% of the value of everything he sells. Write a linear model to express this situation?
Answer by addingup(3677)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Pick a variable (a variable is usually a letter that can be any number, that's why it's called a variable).
What letter do you want to use? the letter x is most commonly used.
How much does the salesman sell? do you know? Do you think its the the exact same amount every year? Do you know? I don't. Do you think the amount can vary? If you do, it's a variable. Multiply the variable times 18/100. This is the amount of his commission.
Add the commission to his salary and you have your linear model you can use for any amount of sales.
