Answer by addingup(3677) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
area of 320 square feet. It's length is 4 feet more
L*W = 320
L = W+4 Substitute for L above:
(W+4)*W = 320
W^2+4W = 320
W^2+4W-320 = 0
factor the left side
(W-16)(W+20) = 0
W-16 = 0 or W+20 = 0
W = 16 or W = -20
We are not looking for a negative number so set the -20 aside and let's try the 16:
L = W+4 = 16+4 = 20
L*W = 320
20*16 = 320 Correct
