Next, what is whole number 1 divided by 6? Then multiply the result by 100 (because you are interested in percent increase).

you're going from 24000 to 28000.

this means that 24000 has to be in the denominator.

you calculate the difference to be 28000 - 24000 = 4000.

4000 / 24000 = 4/24 = 1/6 = .1667.

i'd say you're right.

for there to be a 20% increase, your second number would have to be 28800.

sometimes the 8's get confused with the 0's.

check your numbers more thoroughly to see if this might be the case.

otherwise the book is wrong.
