A 26 ft piece of rope is cut into three pieces such that the second piece is twice the first piece and the third piece is 4ft less than 3 times the first piece. Find the length of the third piece
----
Let the pieces be f,s,t (1st,2nd,3rd)
-------
Equations:
f + s + t = 26 ft
s = 2f
t = 3f-4
--------------------
Substitute to solve for "f"::
f + 2f + 3f-4 = 26
6f = 30
first = 5 ft
--------------------
Ans: third = t = 3f-4 = 11 ft
