Question 1045985: The area of a rectangle is the product of its length and width. A rectangle poster has an area of 260 square inches. The width of poster is greater than 10 inches and is a prime number. What is the width of the poster? Please give answer with explanation of how you came up with the answer. Thank you.
Answer by addingup(3677)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
L*W = 260
W= >10 and prime: 11, 13, 17. And 17*17 = 289, so it has to be smaller than 17.
The numbers can be:
Width 11, Length 23.63..
or
Width 13, Length 20 This is a much more elegant answer, your poster is:
Width 13, Length 20
-----------------------
Another approach:
L*W = 260
W = >10 and prime: 11, 13, 17 Look at these numbers and think 260. 26 is 2* which one? 13 jumps at you, because 13*2 = 26, thus 13*20 = 260.
