Question 1045821: Suppose that during a test drive of two cars, one car travels 110 miles in the same time that the second car travels 75 miles. If the speed of one car is 14 miles per hour faster than the speed of the second car, find the speed of both cars. please show work.

Here is a data table implying variable assignments using your description:
                SPEED       TIME    DISTANCE
firstcar        r+14         t       110
secondcar        r           t        75

Use the basic rule for travel rate with constant rate R,

using D for distance, and T for time

Can YOU solve and determine r and r+14 using this?

Let r be the rate of the slower car. Then:
75/r=110/(r+14)
75r+1050=110r
35r=1050
r=30
The slower car goes 30 mph; the faster one goes 44 mph. ☺☺☺☺
