Question 1038169: Your office is moving into a new space and you have to decide if you want electric heat or natural gas. You have determined that it will take about 4000 kWh per month to heat the space with electricity and currently your electric company charges $0.075 per kWh. The natural gas provider currently charges $1.85 per therm.
The conversions you will need are 1 kWh=3413
Btu 100,000 Btu=1 Therm.
choices are: Electric, $300. Gas, $47.44. Electric, $1.78. Gas, $252.56

Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the cost for electricity is 4000 kwh * .075 per kwh = $300.00 for the electric.

the cost for the natural gas is 4000 kwh * 3413 btu per kwh = 13,652,000 btu * 1/100,000 therms per btu = 136.52 therms * 1.85 per therm = $252.562 for the gas.

the gas is cheaper, so the office will probably go with gas.

the selection would be $252.56.
