Question 103160: If Sally can paint a house in 4 hours, and John can paint the same house in 6 hour, how long will it take for both of them to paint the house together?
Answer by edjones(8007) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Sally does 1/4 of the job per hr.
John does 1/6 of the job in an hr.
1/4 + 1/6 = fraction of the job together
3/12 + 2/12 = 5/12
Now all you have to do is flip that last fraction over to find out how long it takes to do the entire job: 12/5 hr = 2 2/5 hr = 2 hr 24 min.
