1) the new square is 1.44 times the old square total area. Side is sqrt(area) so we take the square root of 1.44 and get 1.2. Each side was increased 20%.
2) 21%, Old rectangle area was L*W (length times width) New one is 1.1L*1.1W= (1.1*1.1)*L*W= 1.21 LW or 21% larger.
