Question 101832: can anyone help with this problem?:Hooks law states that the distance a spring stretches varies directly as the weight on the spring increases. A weight of 12 pounds strecthes a spring 1.5 inches. how far will a weight of 64 pounds stretch the spring?
Answer by Fombitz(32388) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
12 lbs is to 1.5 inches as 64 lbs is to X inches. Assuming the 64 lbs didn’t break the spring, then you can set up a ratio.
Multiply both side by X.
Simplify
Multiply both side by (1.5/12)
X = 8 inches
