Question 1006965: Hello,
I've been trying to solve this problem for a little while now. I keep getting 302, and my teacher has marked it wrong multiple times. Could you help? This is the problem:
Jason can lift a small car with the use of a lever. The short end of the steel rod is 8 inches from the fulcrum and the long end is 8 feet from the fulcrum. What is the maximum what Jason can lift if he weighs 160 pounds?
Thank you!

Answer by fractalier(6550)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x be the maximum weight he can lift.
If you change 8 feet to inches, you get 96 inches.
Now, you set it up as
8x = 96(160)
and
x = 1920 pounds

=====================
The amount he can lift is not related to his weight.
Some people that weigh 160 can lift a lot more than others.
---
The length of the steel rod doesn't affect the amount he can lift, either.
Silly problem.
