The circular base of a cylindrical water tank has an area of 1 metre squared.
A solid cube with edges of length 20cm is dropped beneath the surface of the water.
:
Find the volume of the solid cube 20^3 = 8000 cu/cm
we assume it will displace 8000 cu/cm of water.
:
What is the resulting increase in the height of the water level in cm?
let h = the height increase of the water in this cylinder (in cm)
Change 1 sq/meter to sq/cm 100^2 = 10000 sq/cm
:
The area of the base (in cm) * height = 8000
10000h = 8000\
h = 8000/10000
h = .8 cm increase in water level
