The solution to Problem 1
Below (after the reminder) is the solution to the Problem 1 of the lesson Some logic problems (the topic Miscellaneous word problems
of the section Word problems in this site).
Problem 1 formulation (reminder)
Three boxes contain one ball each: white, black and green.
The first box is labeled as "White", the second box is labeled as "Black", and the third box is labeled as "White or Green",
but none of the labels corresponds to the box content.
Can you identify, what ball is in each box?
Solution
First, consider the box labeled as "White or Green".
Since this label doesn't match the box content, this box contains the black ball.
Now, consider the box labeled as "White".
Since this label doesn't match the box content, this box can contain the black or the green ball.
But we just have found that the black ball is in the box labeled as "White or Green".
Hence, the box labeled as "White" contains the green ball.
At last, for the box labeled as "Black", the only one opportunity remains: this box contains the white ball.
Answer
The box labeled as "White or Green" contains the black ball.
The box labeled as "White" contains the green ball.
The box labeled as "Black" contains the white ball.
