Question 99959: A square piece of cardboard is formed into an open box (not top) by removing a 1.5 inch square from each corner and folding up the sides. If the volume of the box is 37.5 cubic inches, what was the size of the cardboard?
Answer by fastblue(13)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Volume = 1.5 tall * width * length.
Since a square, length = width.
Volume = 1.5 * x * x
37.5 = 1.5 * xsquared
X squared=37.5/1.5 , solve and
x=5 , so the cardboard is 6.5 by 6.5
