Question 998929: A rectangular lot whose perimeter is 360 feet is fenced along three sides. An expensive fencing along the lot’s length costs $20 per foot and an inexpensive fencing along the two side widths costs only $8 per foot. The total cost of the fencing along the three sides comes to $3280. What are the lot’s dimensions?
Answer by josgarithmetic(39618) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
L for length
w for width
The fence is along ONE of L and two of w. The perimeter uses FOUR sides, and not just three of them. The expensive fence material is along the one L, and the cheaper fence material is along the two w parts.
PERIMETER
FENCE COST
Two linear equations in two unknown variables, and both can first use some simplifications. Do you see how to proceed from here?
