since length times width (or base times height) gives you area of a rectangle, you just multiply the binomials and set equal to the ares, then solve the quadratic.
(x+2)(x-2) is a difference of squares, so... we know that when multiplied it is x^2 - 4
Then set that equal to the area of 32.
x^2 - 4 = 32 to solve we will isolate the x and then use square roots.

x^2 = 36 Take the square root of both sides
x = 6
so the base is 6 + 2 = 8
& the height is 6 - 2 = 4
