Mai is flying a plane at an altitude of 1600 ft. She sights a stadium at an angle of depression of 35 degrees. What is mai's approximate horizontal distance from the stadium?
---------
Draw the picture::
You have a right triangle with height = 1600
and angle opposite height = 35 degrees (because angle of depression
equal angle of elevation)
-----
Solve for "base::
tan(35) = 1600/base
-----
base = 1600/tan(35) = 2285.04 ft
------------
