If a bridge that is one mile long is attached to the ground on either side, and you cut it in the middle and add one foot, what is the height of how far the bridge bows up in the middle?
---------------
Draw the picture
On one-half of the bridge you have a base of 5280/2 = 2640 ft
and a hypotenuse of 2640.5 ft.
Let the height be "x" ft.
-----------------
x^2 = 2640.5^2 - 2640^2
Solve for "x".
