To put a post every meter around the perimeter of a 10m x 10m square would require 40 posts. The first side requires 1 post at zero + 1 for each meter, the second and third sides require 1 post for each meter(since the first post is already in place from the side before, and the last side 1 less post than the number of meters, since first AND last posts are already in place.
