How do I write the equation to find x? The culinary school spent 18,000 on advertising using radio and newspaper. the amount spent on newspaper was 5/4 that of radio. Find the amount spent on each type of advertising
---------------------
radio spend:: x
newpaper spend:: 5x/4
-----
Equation::
x + 5x/4 = 18000
9x/4 = 18000
x/4 = 2000
x = $8000 (radio spend)
5x/4 = $10,000 (newspaper spend)
