Question 939643: the length of a new rectangular playing field is 5 yards longer than double the width. If the perimeter of the rectangular playing field is 334 yards, what are its dimensions

Let the length of the field be l and its width be w
From the first statement,
Perimeter of the field is 334 yards
And perimeter of rectangle = 2*l +2*w = 334
Now substituting for l,
4*w+10+2*w = 334
6*w = 334-10
6*w = 324,
w = 324/6 = 54
Also, l=2*w + 5= 2*54+5= 113
Therefore, the dimensions are (l,b) = (113,54)
