L + w = 24m

L = w^2/2

.......

 |Multiplying thru by 2 so as all denominators = 1

w^2 + 2w - 48 = 0

(w+8)(w-6) = 0  (tossing out negative solution for unit measure)

w = 6m  and L = 18m 

And...checking

L + w = 24m
