: A ribbon has been placed around the earth's equator. Ten feet has been added to the original ribbon and the new ribbon has been uniformly placed around the equator.
Note: the circumference of the earth is about 25,000 miles and 1 mile= 5,280 feet
What would be the largest thing you would be able to slide between the original ribbon and the new ribbon: a sheet of paper, your finger, a golf ball, a baseball, or a basketball?

A ribbon has been placed around the earth's equator.
--------------
Formula: Circumference = (pi)*diameter
If C=25000 miles = 25000*5280 = 132000000 ft
Dividing by (pi) we get a diameter of 42016904.98 ft
----------------
If we add 10 ft. to the circumference we get [25000*5280+10]ft
Dividing that by (pi) we get the new diameter:
[25000*5280+10/(pi)]ft = 4201608.16 ft
-----------------
Subtracting the smaller diameter from the larger we get 0.00374 ft
--------------
Taking (1/2) of that we get the distance of the extended ribbon
from the earth's surface:
(1/2)*0.00374 = 0.00187 ft
-----------
Changing that to inches we get:
0.02244 inches
--------------
I guess you could get a sheet of paper between the ribbon and the earth.
