Question 895276: The width of a rectangle is 3 feet less than its length. The Perimeter of a rectangle is 100 feet. Find its dimensions?
Answer by JulietG(1812) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
P = 2L + 2W
W = L-3
P = 100
Take the values from the bottom and put into the top equation.
P = 2L + 2W
100 = 2L + 2(L-3)
Distribute
100 = 2L + 2L - 6
Add
100 = 4L - 6
Add 6 to each side
106 = 4L
Divide each side by 4
L = 26.5
If the length is 26.5 and the width is 3 less than that, the width is 23.5
26.5 + 26.5 + 23.5 + 23.5 = 100
